Hi, I'm Rochelle,
A Product Designer of 5 years with a background in Cognitive Science, based in San Jose, CA.
As a child of immigrants, I was my mom's IT support. English wasn't her first language, and neither was navigating digital interfaces. I saw firsthand how bad design restricts people's autonomy and access to resources, like not being able to manage your own money because you can't get past the login flow — that shapes your financial habits for life. I'm driven to design experiences that give people agency to live their best lives.
Most recently at PairAnything, I designed and shipped B2B2C products to help shoppers feel confident buying wine they've never tasted before. The challenge of helping someone choose something unfamiliar and feel good about it is one that translates to just about any business. I loved balancing end-user, customer, and business needs from end-to-end, and collaborating with Engineers, Product Managers, and Executives to launch products from 0 to 1.
Before that, I was one of the founding designers and mentors at Design Interactive, UC Davis's first human-centered design organization, where I mentored junior designers through the UX process and designed digital products in the Health, Gaming, and Education industries.
I lead with curiosity and I'm not afraid to get scrappy. Five years of shipping products at a startup taught me to find creative ways to achieve real business outcomes, especially in ambiguous spaces with limited time and resources.
When I'm not designing, I'm screen printing silly t-shirts as gag gifts for friends, or enjoying the outdoors fishing.
